The Indian Veterinary Research Institute has recently published a study highlighting the potential health risks associated with drinking cow urine. The study found that at least 14 harmful bacteria, including Escherichia coli, which can cause stomach infections, were present in samples of urine from cows and bulls.
The peer-reviewed study, which was published on Researchgate, analyzed 73 urine samples and found that two common bacterial colonizers of human and mammalian skin and mucous membranes, S. epidermidis and E. Rhapontici, were also present. These findings suggest that consuming cow urine may not be safe for human consumption and could pose health risks. It is important to rely on evidence-based practices for maintaining good health, rather than unproven traditional remedies.
The article on Researchgate investigates the antimicrobial properties of cow urine against various bacterial strains. The study found that cow urine had moderate to high antibacterial activity against some bacteria, including Staphylococcus aureus and Salmonella typhi. However, the study also found that cow urine did not have any significant effect on other bacteria, such as Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The authors suggest that further research is needed to fully understand the antimicrobial properties of cow urine and its potential use in traditional medicine.
