- 1974 – Nuclear weapons testing: Under project Smiling Buddha, India successfully detonates its first nuclear weapon becoming the sixth nation to do so.
- 1912 – The first Indian film, Shree Pundalik by Dadasaheb Torne, is released in Mumbai.

- 1961 - Lieutenant General Anil Chauhan PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, SM, VSM is a veteran General Officer in the Indian Army who served as General Officer Commanding-in-Chief Eastern Command. He took office on 1 September 2019 following Lt. General Manoj Mukund Naravane's elevation to the post of Vice Chief of Army Staff. General Chauhan, was commissioned into the Gurkha Rifles, commanded a division in Kashmir, a corps in the east (4 Corps, poised against China) and finally the enormous Eastern Command. He is appointed as the 2nd CDS by the Govt of India on 28th September 2022.
