- 2011 - India won its 2nd Cricket World cup on 2nd April 2011, after around 28 years of the first World Cup on 25th June 1983. India defeated Sri Lanka in the finals to lift its second World Cup. Mahendra Singh Dhoni was chosen the "Player of the Match" for 2011 World Cup.
- 1984 - Indian Air Force officer Squadron Leader Rakesh Sharma flew aboard a Soyuz T11 spacecraft on April 2, 1984, he became the first Indian to journey into space. He spent 7 days, 21 hours and 40 minutes aboard the Salyut 7 orbital station along with two Soviet astronauts, Yury Malyshev and Gennadi Strekalov.
