- 1699 – Khalsa: The Sikh religion was formalised as the Khalsa - the brotherhood of Warrior-Saints - by Guru Gobind Singh in northern India, in accordance with the Nanakshahi calendar.

- 1891 - Dr BR Ambedkar was an Indian jurist, economist, social reformer and political leader who headed the committee drafting the Constitution of India from the Constituent Assembly debates, and served as Law and Justice minister in the first cabinet of Jawaharlal Nehru. Ambedkar established a successful legal practice and organised the Bahishkrit Hitakarini Sabha to promote education and socio-economic uplifting of the depressed classes. BR Ambedkar’s initiation into Buddhism with his 8,50,000 supporters historically was the most extensive conversion in the world. Ambedkar was the first Doctoral Degree holder in economics among Indians.
