- 2022 - Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on 15th January 2023, inaugurated the 112-foot-tall Adiyogi statue in Karnataka's Chikkaballapur. It is a replica of a statue at Isha Yoga Center in Coimbatore. This comes after Karnataka High Court on Friday allowed its inauguration after a PIL had alleged that the yoga centre, of which the statue is a part, was undertaken in an environmentally sensitive area.
- 2022 - India defeated Sri Lanka by 317 runs in the third ODI in Thiruvananthapuram to record the biggest-ever victory (by runs) in ODI cricket history. With the win, India completed a 3-0 ODI series whitewash. The previous biggest win in ODI cricket was recorded on July 1, 2008, when New Zealand defeated Ireland by 290 runs.
- 2022 - Sunil Holkar, was an actor, who was featured in the TV show 'Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah'. He was last seen in the National Award-winning Marathi film 'Goshta Eka Paithanichi'. He had worked in the film industry for over 12 years. He also featured in TV shows like 'Barrister Babu' and 'Maddam Sir'.

- 2022 - Virat Kohli slammed 166*(110) in the third ODI against Sri Lanka, recording his highest ODI score on Indian soil. Kohli now has the most ODI hundreds at home (21). Kohli set the record for slamming most ODI hundreds against a country (10, Sri Lanka). He also slammed the fastest ODI 150 in India (106 balls). He also became 5th highest run-scorer in ODI cricket, Kohli has scored 12,754 runs in ODIs.
- 2020 - Russian President Vladimir Putin will be in Tamil Nadu in January 2020 to witness the famous bull-taming sport Jallikattu at Alanganallur during Pongal celebrations (15th - 18th January 2020).

- 1934 – V. S. Ramadevi, an Indian civil servant and politician, was the first woman to become Chief Election Commissioner of India. She was also the first and to date only female Governor of Karnataka. She was the 13th Governor of Karnataka.

- 1926 - Khashaba Dadasaheb Jadhav was an Indian wrestler who became independent India's first individual athlete to win an Olympic medal at the 1952 Summer Olympics in Helsinki. At the 1952 Helsinki Olympics, Jadhav defeated wrestlers from Germany, Mexico, and Canada before losing to the eventual champion. He earned a bronze medal, becoming the first medal winner from independent India.
