- 1992 - On 6 December 1992, a large group of Hindu activists of the Vishva Hindu Parishad and allied organisations demolished the 16th-century Babri Mosque in the city of Ayodhya, in Uttar Pradesh, leading to widespread riots and causing the death of over 1,500 people.
- 1971 – Pakistan severs diplomatic relations with India, initiating the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971.
- 1966 - Prime Minister Indira Gandhi's Govt devalued Indian Rupee by around 57%, From the rupee of 4.76/dollar, it fell to rupees 7.50/dollar.

Death Anniversary on 6 December
- 1956 - Dr BR Ambedkar was an Indian jurist, economist, social reformer and political leader who headed the committee drafting the Constitution of India from the Constituent Assembly debates, and served as Law and Justice minister in the first cabinet of Jawaharlal Nehru. Ambedkar established a successful legal practice, and also organised the Bahishkrit Hitakarini Sabha to promote education and socio-economic uplifting of the depressed classes. BR Ambedkar’s initiation into Buddhism with his 8,50,000 supporters historically in the world was the largest conversion in the world. Ambedkar was the first Doctoral Degree holder in economics among Indians.
