- 1960 - Vijayalakshmi Vadlapati popularly known as Silk Smitha, was an Indian actress and dancer who worked predominantly in Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi films. She debuted as a supporting actress in the 1979 Tamil film Vandichakkaram where she played the role of a character called "Silk". In a career spanning 17 years, she appeared in over 450 films.

- 1855 - Sir Narayan Ganesh Chandavarkar (N.G. Chandavarkar) was an early Indian National Congress politician and Hindu reformer. He was regarded by some as the "leading Hindu reformer of western India". Narayan Ganesh Chandavarkar was born in Honavar in the Bombay Presidency on 2 December 1855. N.G. Chandavarkar was the vice-chancellor of the University of Bombay. He was elected the president of the annual session of the Indian National Congress in 1900. (Death: 4th May 1923)
