Know about Former IAS Officer Kannan Gopinathan

Kannan Gopinathan (born: 12 December 1985) was an IAS officer from Kerala. He came into the limelight after resigning his post and stating that he was unhappy about how the fundamental rights of the people of Jammu & Kashmir were being denied after the revocation of Article 370.

Early life

Kannan was born in Kottayam District of Kerala, he had his formal education from Higher Secondary school of Puthuppally, Kerala. He did B.Tech in Electrical Engineering from the Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra in Ranchi, Jharkhand. Kannan is having a son Aadu with his wife Himani Pathak.

Career

Kannan's first posting was in Delhi from July 2013 to July 2014 as an Assistant Collector.  In September 2014, He was then transferred to Mizoram as the Deputy Collector of Hnahthial. He worked for one and a half years before being promoted as the District Magistrate/Deputy Commissioner of Aizawl in Mizoram in February 2016.
He worked as the DM of Aizawl till December 2017, after which he was posted as the District Collector of Dadra and Nagar Haveli. He was appointed as the Managing Director of the Dadra and Nagar Haveli Power Distribution Corporation Ltd (DNHPDCL). The DNHPDCL was a loss-making government department but Kannan turned the power department profitable.

  • 2019 - 13th December - Kannan Gopinathan along with few other protesters were detained by Mumbai police, when Kannan along with other protesters were peacefully protesting against the unconstitutional Citizenship Amendment Bill 2019 near Marine Drive, Mumbai.
  • 2019 - 26th August, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra took jibe at the Narendra Modi Govt, citing a news article of Kannan's resignation. 
  • 2018 - Kannan volunteered in relief work during Kerala floods keeping his identity secret.
  • 2017 - Kannan was appointed as the Managing Director of the Dadra and Nagar Haveli Power Distribution Corporation Ltd.
  • 2014 - Kannan transferred as deputy Collector of Hnahthial, September 2014, he worked there till 2017 and promoted as the DM of Aizawl
  • 2013 - Kannan posted as Assistant Collector in Delhi, July 2013
  • 2012 - He started his training as an IAS officer
  • 2011 - He Started preparing for IAS
  • 2007 - After completing college, Kannan joined an MNC "Freescale Semiconductors" as a design engineer, he worked there for 4 years.
