- 2022 - Google India fined for ₹1,337 Crore for anti-competitive practices.
- 2019 - Rohit Sharma breaks Don Bradman's 71-year-old record after scoring 212(255) in the thirst Test against South Africa in Ranchi, India. With this average of 99.84, he overtook Australian legend Don Bradman's record for the highest average at home (10 innings). Bradman scored 4332 runs in 33 home Tests between 1928 and 1948 at an average of 98.22.
- 2019 - Indian Pacer Umesh Yadav smashed 31(10), including five sixes, on the second day of the third Test against South Africa on 20th October 2019. With this, he set the world record for recording the highest strike rate(10) in 10-plus ball innings in Test history. He also became the first cricketer to slam five sixes in an innings without smashing a four.
- 1991 – A 6.8 Mw earthquake strikes the Uttarkashi region of India, killing more than 1,000 people.
- 1962 – the People's Republic of China launches simultaneous offensives in Ladakh and across the McMahon Line, igniting the Sino-Indian War.

- 1978 – Virender Sehwag, Indian cricketer, also lovingly called 'Mr Triple Centurion' for his amazing triple centuries scores, Once 309 against Pakistan in Multan (2004) and once more of 319 against South Africa in Chennai (2008).
- 1927 – Gunturu Seshendra Sarma, Indian poet and critic (d. 2007)
- 1923 - Velikkakathu Sankaran Achuthanandan is an Indian politician who was the Chief Minister of Kerala from 2006 to 2011. At 82, he is the oldest person to have assumed office. He served as the chairman of Administrative reforms in Kerala with state cabinet rank from 2016 to 2021.
- 1920 – Siddhartha Shankar Ray, Indian lawyer and politician, 5th Chief Minister of West Bengal (died on 6th November 2010)
- 1871 - Atul Prasad Sen, legendary composer, lyricist and singer. He was also a lawyer, philanthropist, social worker, educationist and littérateur.
