- 2022 - Mallikarjun Kharge became Congress' first non-Gandhi President in over two decades on Wednesday. Kharge defeated Shashi Tharoor in the Congress President poll which was held on Monday. Kharge will replace interim Congress chief Sonia Gandhi, who has been occupying the post ever since Rahul Gandhi stepped down after the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
- 2019 - Rohit Sharma became 2nd Indian opener after Sunil Gavaskar to smash three centuries in a Test series. Rohit scored 176 and 127 in the first Test and touched the 3-figure mark in just 130 deliveries, in the third Test against South Africa in Ranchi. Rohit also set the world record for most sixes in a Test series(17*).

- 1870 - Matangini Hazra, was an Indian revolutionary who participated in the Indian independence movement until she was shot dead by the British Indian police in front of the Tamluk Police Station (of erstwhile Midnapore District) on 29 September 1942. She was affectionately known as Gandhi Buri, Bengali for old lady Gandhi.
