- Union Cabinet chaired by PM Narendra Modi approves the development of a new Container Terminal and a new Multipurpose Cargo Berth at Deendayal Port for ₹5,963 crores under Public Private Partnership(PPP) mode.

- 1871 - The British in India enacted the Criminal Tribes Act, naming many local communities "Criminal Tribes".
- 2005 - Freedom of Information (FOI) Act, 2002 passed. After that, Bill for the Right To Information Act(RTI Act), 2005 was passed and became fully operational on October 12, 2005.
- 1993 - Mukesh Kumar is a medium fast bowler who plays for the Bengal cricket team. In October 2022, he got selected to play for India in the ODI series against South Africa.
- 1991 - Akshara Haasan is an Indian film actress who has appeared in Hindi and Tamil films. The daughter of actors Kamal Haasan and Sarika Thakur, and the younger sister of Shruti Haasan, she made her film debut with the comedy-drama Shamitabh, and later appeared in Vivegam.

In the days of the British Raj, as the consort of the last ruling Maharaja of Gwalior, Jivajirao Scindia, she ranked among the highest royal figures of the land.
