- 2022 - Bharat Jodo Yatra (pad yatra) or "Unite India March" began on September 7. It is the first-ever national-level foot march that was officially launched by Rahul Gandhi, keeping an eye on the 2024 General Elections. The 3,570 km long Bharat Jodo Yatra will end by 4th February 2023 that's around 150 days in total.
- 2020 - DRDO Successfully tests indigenous hypersonic technology demonstrator vehicle.
- 2019 - India's Chandrayaan-2 failed to Land and crashed "Close To South Pole Of Moon" in the wee hours of 7th September 2019, after communication with Vikram Lander had failed when the lander was just 2.1km above the lunar surface.
- 1965 – During an Indo-Pakistani War, China announces that it will reinforce its troops on the Indian border.
- 1695 – Henry Every perpetrates one of the most profitable pirate raids in history with the capture of the Grand Mughal ship Ganj-i-Sawai. In response, Emperor Aurangzeb threatens to end all English trading in India.

- 1963 - Neerja Bhanot, Indian model and youngest recipient of the country's highest peacetime military award Ashok Chakra (d. 1986)
- 1951 - Mammootty, Indian Actor and Producer
- 1934 - Sunil Gangopadhyay, Indian author and poet.
- 1933 - Elaben Bhatt was a renowned woman empowerment activist, Gandhian and founder of the Self-Employed Women’s Association (SEWA). She received India's fourth-highest civilian honour Padma Shri in 1985 and the third-highest civilian honour, the Padma Bhushan, in 1986. For her efforts in empowering women through entrepreneurship, she received the Gandhi Peace Prize in 2011. She also won the Ramon Magsaysay Award for Community Leadership in 1977. Elaben passed away on 2nd November following a brief illness at an Ahmedabad hospital in Gujarat. She was 89 years old.
- 1925 - Bhanumathi Ramakrishna, Indian actress, singer, director, and producer (d. 2005)
- 2020 - Jaya Prakash Reddy, is known for his comic and villainous roles in Telugu films. Jaya Prakash was featured in many Tamil & Telugu films like Brahma Putrudu, Samarasimha Reddy, Uthamaputhiran, Aaru, Anjaneya and Avunu Valliddaru Ista Paddaru among many others. He died of cardiac arrest at the age of 74.

- 2013 - Romesh Bhandari, Pakistani-Indian politician and diplomat, 13th Foreign Secretary of India (b. 1928)
