- 2020 - Mahendra Singh Dhoni announces retirement from all forms of International cricket.
- 1969 - The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is the space agency of the Government of India headquartered in the city of Bengaluru. ISRO sent a lunar orbiter, Chandrayaan-1, on 22 October 2008 and the Mars Orbiter Mission, on 5 November 2013, making India the first nation to succeed on its maiden attempt to Mars. on 15 February 2017, ISRO launched one hundred and four satellites in a single rocket (PSLV-C37), a world record. On 22 July 2019, ISRO launched its second lunar mission Chandrayaan-2, which consists of an orbiter, lander and rover.
- 1947 – India gains Independence from British rule after near 190 years of a British company and crown rule, and joins the Commonwealth of Nations.
