One of the most questioned departments for its credibility, IMD (Indian Meteorological Department) is now on the limelight and is getting pat on the back for its more or less perfect prediction, Thanks to the IMD chief LS Rathore and his team.
L S Rathore not only stood vindicated for his team's prediction to the Cyclone Phailin which predicted almost very much accurate with the rain, winds and location of hit areas, that saved nearly half a million of lives and some infrastructures but he has also ruled out western prediction of terming this cyclone Phailin as Super cyclone of category 5.
L S Rathore stood firm on his teams finding that the Phailin would be having winds of around 200-220kmph and that can't be termed a super cyclone as was termed by the US and Britain MET departments. He told media not to create havoc in peoples mind by terming this cyclone a 'Super Cyclone' as was rumoured by western media.
Almost accurate prediction well ahead of time helped the local govt (BJD Govt headed by Chief Minister Navin Pattnaik in Odisha) to take necessary steps and measures for the coming disaster Phailin, that led the govt to relocate people residing near coastal areas to safer places before the disaster created by Cyclone Phailin.
Well, Congratulations to IMD Chief and IMD teams.
