Padma Shri Arunachalam Muruganantham born 1962 is a social entrepreneur from Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu, India.

Arunachalam Muruganantham is the inventor of a low-cost sanitary pad making the machine and has innovated grass-roots mechanisms for generating awareness about traditional unhygienic practices around menstruation in rural India. He invented a set of machines which manufacture sanitary pads for women at a lower price and the best part is that he is employing women to make these pads, thus creating job opportunities for them. His mini-machines, which can manufacture sanitary pads for less than a third of the cost of commercial pads, have been installed in 23 of the 29 states of India. He is currently planning to expand the production of these machines to 106 nations. In 2014, TIME magazine placed him in its list of 100 Most Influential People in the World.
He is also the recipient of the coveted Padma Shri award by the President of India. He was honoured with Padma Shri in April 2016.

Arunachalam Muruganantham was a workshop helper is now the head of Jayashree Industries, he himself designed, created and even implemented a sanitary napkin. He who first thought to create the sanitary napkin for his wife, divorced him and then he got separated from his family for his unusual research works, he was doing through the used napkins.
Arunachalam though patented his innovation but he is not earning profits through IPRs and is helping rural India and rural women all over the world by employing them to create low-cost napkin through his designed machine which can produce around 120 napkins per hour. The machine costs around Rs. 65,000 in contrary to the machine and set up used by the Multi-National companies which cost around 3.5 crores as initial set up.
