To know about different people, their work, their art, their thinking, is what I like the most, I love learning from people and their experiences. I happen to be someone who loves authenticity and who loves to be genuine with his art. You can't be authentic till you get the real difference of what you aren't, which others are. You happen to be real you, when you fail to imitate others. The more you fail imitating others, the more you realize the authentic you.
It's a game of playing with identities and authenticity's. Host of the game is none other than the artist who plays it the best, Hetain patel. Hetain plays with our preconception of identities and authenticity's, He challenges the common assumptions we people make out of people, by their look, their talk, ascent, they come from, gender, race and class etc.
Hetain who is basically an English, born and raised in Nottingham, England, has his roots in India. Hetain who has done 100s of solo performance at almost all popular art gallery and theaters around the world is best known for his art "Be like water".
Hetain as he describes, he wanted to be the superhero like Bruce lee in his childhood, then he tried looking like his father and how he shaved his head to grow his hairs the style his father had in 1960's.
Hetain loves exploring identities in his art performances and in this exploration if he happen to deliver something, is what he believed is because of ideas that develops out of the residence of those identities and not his own statements. Read more about him here >> My Work
Recently Hetain was the speaker at TED(Watch his performance at Edinburgh, Scotland), where he performed his art Be like water with his colleague Yuyu Rau. Hetain at TED very skillfully, cleverly, charmingly and utmost surreal spoke about himself and his art. He maintained an Indian style of sitting (crouch a posture) from beginning of his speech cum performance till the end, and lastly he explores about himself, that he has not learned this crouch posture, being an Indian origin, but he learned this from Spiderman.
