Dharam Dev Anand or (Dharamdev Pishorilal Anand) is popularly known as Dev Anand (born: 26th
September 1923; died: 3rd December 2011), was an evergreen superstar of Bollywood.
He was not alone in the industry of Bollywood but was supported by his brothers Chetan Annand, Vijay Anand, and his sister Sheel Kanta Kapur. Sheel Kanta Kapur is also known as the mother of Shekhar Kapur, the famous Bollywood and Hollywood director.
Dev Anand is an actor, director and producer of many hit films of Bollywood.
Dev Anand was born in Narowal district of Pakistan and he graduated from Lahore.

Dev Anand in his early career in the film industry fell in
love with the superstar Suraiya of that time. Suraiya and Dev Anand are
supposed to fell in love while they were performing a song "kinare kinare chale jayenge" from the film Vidya. Dev Anand had saved her life when she was drowning. After
the incident, Dev Anand proposed her and she accepted it, but they could not
marry because of his mother who opposed this marriage because of caste difference.
As Suraiya was a Muslim girl while Dev Anand was Hindu. Due to this Suraiya
remained unmarried her whole life and in the year 1954 Dev Anand married to
Kalpana Karthik.
Dev Anand’s debut was with ‘Hum Sath Hain’ in the year 1946. It is said that during this movie he came close to Guru Dutt and they had a mutual plan for their career. They planned that whosoever become successful will help the other to be successful. And due to this, they were always helping each other, like if Guru Dutt is directing a movie then Dev Anand will be the actor and if Dev Anand is producing a movie then guru Dutt will be directing that. Dev Anand’s first colour movie was Guide with Waheeda Rahman, this movie was based on the Novel Guide by R K Narayan.
Dev Anand had won three Filmfare awards which includes one
for his best actor for the film ‘Kala Pani’ and best film for guide and lifetime achievement award.
Dev Anand was conferred with Padma Bhushan in the year 2001 and with Dada Saheb Phalke award in 2002 by the government of India.
